Online Training for Dementia Caregiver Burden and Quality of Life

Informal caregivers of people living with dementia carry measurably high burden and diminished quality of life, yet structured training for this population remains sparsely evaluated. This trial assessed whether a remotely delivered training program could reduce caregiver burden and improve quality of life, addressing a gap in which support interventions are widely recommended but rarely tested in accessible formats.

Key Points

  • Dementia caregivers show elevated burden and reduced quality of life
  • Online training program evaluated against caregiver burden and quality-of-life outcomes
  • Remote delivery addresses access barriers limiting conventional caregiver support

Longevity Analysis

Chronic caregiving is one of the most sustained stress exposures in later life, with documented effects on sleep architecture, immune competence, cardiovascular risk, and cognitive performance in the caregiver — a health trajectory that often goes unmeasured because clinical attention remains on the patient. Interventions that reduce perceived burden operate upstream of those downstream consequences, shifting the stress response out of continuous activation and restoring the recovery windows the body requires for repair. Remote delivery matters as much as content, since a protocol only produces benefit when the person carrying the load can realistically complete it.
