Oral NEK7 Degrader Cuts hsCRP 85% Without Immune Cost

Monte Rosa Therapeutics reported Phase 1 results for MRT-8102, an oral degrader of NEK7, in 108 obese adults with elevated cardiovascular risk. Four weeks of dosing produced approximately 80–90% NEK7 degradation alongside median reductions of 85% in hsCRP, 54% in IL-6, 28% in fibrinogen and 24% in lipoprotein(a), with adverse event rates comparable to placebo and no signal of increased infection risk.

Key Points

  • hsCRP fell 85%, IL-6 54% after four weeks dosing
  • NEK7 degradation of 80–90% achieved across all doses
  • No increased infection risk; adverse events matched placebo

Longevity Analysis

Residual inflammatory risk persists in patients whose lipids are already well controlled, and interleukin-driven signaling remains one of the few modifiable contributors to arterial damage that statins do not address. Selectively removing a single upstream node rather than broadly suppressing immune activity is the central question here — prior anti-inflammatory cardiovascular agents lowered events but raised fatal infection rates, and the absence of that signal in this cohort is the result worth tracking. Lowering lipoprotein(a) and fibrinogen without disturbing LDL-C or triglycerides also suggests the thrombotic and inflammatory contributions to vascular aging may respond to the same intervention.
