Cell Therapies Without the Cold Chain: ARPA-H Backs AI Modeling

VeriSIM Life has joined a federally funded consortium, backed by up to $6.5 million through ARPA-H and led by DesiCorp, to develop preservation methods that allow living cells to be stored and transported without ultra-cold infrastructure. The company will apply its mechanistic AI platform, BIOiSIM, to predictive modeling of preservation formulations. Dry-state or ambient-temperature cell stability would materially widen access to the regenerative and cell-based therapies that underpin much of applied longevity medicine.

Key Points

  • ARPA-H consortium targets cell preservation without ultra-cold chain dependence
  • Mechanistic AI modeling replaces large portions of experimental formulation screening
  • Partners span cellular engineering, formulation science and advanced manufacturing

Longevity Analysis

Cell-based regenerative therapies remain constrained less by biology than by logistics — viability losses during freezing, thawing and transport limit where and to whom these treatments can be delivered. Removing the ultra-cold requirement changes the economics of tissue repair, immune cell therapies and transplant-adjacent interventions, moving them closer to routine clinical availability. Computational prediction of how cells withstand dehydration and temperature stress also sharpens understanding of the cellular stress responses and repair mechanisms that govern survival under duress.
